Holistic Counselling for teenagers, young adults and adults in Harpenden, Hertfordshire

On our journey through life, we can become lost and caught up in negative thoughts and feelings.  This can change our perception and take us out of balance.  It may also affect our wellbeing by creating problems in our relationships which may lead to anxiety, depression or low self-esteem.

Understanding patterns in our life that cause distress helps facilitate insights into the core of our thinking, our self belief, our behaviour and the imposed limitations to bring about change. Past experiences shape how we view ourselves within key relationships and in society, but they do not have to define our life.

I take a holistic approach to my work, focusing on the 'whole' of the client; looking at their life style, including health, lifestyle, stress factors and other contribution factors. We work together in a safe, non judgemental, confidential and trusting environment. You will be listened to with warmth, compassion, empathy and acceptance. Together we will explore and understand your issues more deeply, and you will begin to build resilience and feel empowered to use your own inner wisdom, and access your own inherent ability to grow and develop.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I embrace several modalities and skills that help me to adapt my counselling approach to suit your individual needs. My experience and training enables me to work to a specific focus or goal(s), as well as exploring personal challenges at a deeper level. I have a calm, empathic and honest approach, and extensive experience of empowering and supporting change for my clients.

I offer couples counselling helping and supporting couples with relationship issues.

I support teenagers to manage stress during exam times and help them to build resilience and confidence for the transition of going off to university or work.  I support teenagers with their stress and anxieties.

I also work with university students helping them to adjust to life at university, mental health and to bridge the gap when they leave university and transition into the work environment. We work using Zoom during term time and in person when at home during the holidays.

"I just wanted to say thank you. My daughter really enjoyed talking to you yesterday. She said she felt very comfortable and very welcome and really looking forward to next thursday. The sessions are going to make a huge difference and she realises that already so it's fantastic news. Thanks again." Parent , Harpenden.

"I just wanted to thank you very much for having spent time counselling my daughter. She has really benefited from talking things through with you and she seems much better in herself.  It was good to have the session with you myself too to understand how she feels about things.  We have noticed a marked difference in the way she behaves already which is so good to see.  I am sure there will be more bumps in the road in the future but it is reassuring to know that she can come back to you if necessary.   Many thanks again for all you have done for her and us." JL, Warrington

"I came to see Julie for bereavement counselling after my mum passed away during the first Covid wave. Julie has given me the time and space to be honest and authentic. As an experienced counsellor Julie has also encouraged me to address underlying issues which have been with me for years. Julie immediately makes you feel completely safe and at ease and is highly professional. The respect she has shown me has enabled me to grow as a person and I have absolute trust in her. I cannot thank Julie enough for her work with me and giving me the time when life became too difficult. I can now see things in a new light and have strategies to handle situations differently. I highly recommend Julie for all the help she has given me." CS Harpenden

"Julie, I wanted to say thank you so much for all the support you have given our daughter, I know you squeezed us in and what a difference it has made to her.  We really appreciate all your help and I am very relieved that we seem to be back on track!"  Parent, Harpenden
